NASHVILLE, TN. (Lonestar Official Website) - ACM nominated Top Vocal Group, Lonestar, has teamed up with the Adopt-A-Platoon Soldier Support Effort to ensure that deployed United States Service members in all branches of the military are not forgotten by providing needed support. As a part of this effort,
Lonestar and their fan club members have adopted the 'Lone Star' 2nd Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade, who are now serving in Iraq.
Last fall, Lonestar donated American flags to the 'Lone Star' Battalion. They were flown each day of the Battalion's tour of Iraq and then sent back, one by one, to individuals or groups in the United States as a way of thanking them for their support. The effort was so successful that Lonestar decided to extend their support for the Battalion.
Dean Sams of Lonestar says, 'Our fan club manager, Erin Beller, reports that fan club members are actively sending emails, notes and care packages to the soldiers in Lone Star. It's an awesome way for the troops to see just how much they are appreciated.'
In addition, Lonestar's fanclub members are collecting more specific items requested from wish lists created by the troops of 'Lone Star.' The items, such as books, magazines, snacks, pillows, disposable cameras, sports equipment and more, are then sent to Iraq in an effort to make their lives a little easier while away from their homes. They will also be holding a drive at their annual fan club party in June where attendees can donate items to be included in care packages. At the party there will also be a video message recorded from the party and sent to the troops.
'Lonestar's fans have always been so great about supporting the band's efforts, and we're proud to have them representing the boys,' says Erin Beller.
Lonestar's Michael Britt and wife, Rene, have been involved in the Adopt-A-Platoon organization for years. Britt says, 'No matter what our political views are on these conflicts, we must all know that these men and women took a solemn vow to defend our country with their lives, and they should be honored and revered for that.'
The guys are looking forward to meeting some of the soldiers' families as they tour throughout the country this year in support of their latest album Coming Home on BNA Records. For more information on how to get involved, visit www.lonestar.mu.
