Produced in 1969, The Nashville Sound pinpoints the exact moment when country music went "mainstream" in American pop-culture: the year Johnny Cash albums outsold the Beatles.

Widely recognized as the inspiration for Robert Altman's Oscar-winning film "Nashville," The Nashville Sound features over 40 of the most important country performers of all time: Johnny Cash, whose performance on the Opry stage is the climax of the film, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Charley Pride, Tex Ritter and many more.

Interspersed among the performances are interviews with singers, fans and music industry executives, plus historic behind-the-scenes footage of events taking place in-between performances, auditions and the musician's personal lives.
