LONGVIEW, TX. (Neal McCoy Fans Website) - On the last hot day of the season, over 200 volunteers from the City of Longview, Texas, including the Mayor, Jay Dean, The Home Depot and KaBOOM! joined forces to build a playground in honor of Neal McCoy, 2005 recipient of the Academy of Country Music / Home Depot Humanitarian Award. McCoy along with his wife Melinda and his Mother-in-Law, Patsy Williams, arrived early on Wednesday, October 5th to haul mulch, paint park benches and help where needed to build a safe playground for the children of Longview. With everyone's hard work, the playground was completed by 2:30 PM and a board-cutting ceremony officially opened the new playground to the children. During the ceremony McCoy commented, 'I have the best fans an artist could ask for and they have always stuck by me over the years. In fact, I have won every fan voted award because of the support of my fans.' The Academy of Country Music / The Home Depot Humanitarian Award is a distinctive honor created to recognize an artist or group in the country music industry who is committed to serving others, has a generosity of spirit and is dedicated to help build the dreams of those in need. The Award is voted upon by country music fans. In addition to recognition at the Awards show, the Humanitarian Award recipient is honored with a KaBOOM! playground build in the city of their choice.
