Nashville, TN --
Sara Evans celebrated her chart-topping single, 'A Real Fine Place to Start,' by inviting the song's writer, Radney Foster, for an rare duet performance of the song yesterday. Evans was taping a special at Nashville's Ocean Way studios for a forthcoming AOL
Music Sessions when it was suggested that creating an acoustic version of the song with Foster as Evans' duet partner would be magical.
Although Foster was not among those present, Evans' management team, label and AOL reps quickly located him, and within 30 minutes, Foster arrived at the Music Row studio, borrowed guitar slung over his shoulder, ready to sing. The small group assembled in the studio for the intimate taping realized they had witnessed a unique musical 'moment' and awarded the pair a spontaneous ovation. Foster, who told a blushing Evans that she had 'the best pipes in the business,' commented, 'This was one of the coolest experiences of my entire life. To walk into the studio completely unrehearsed and perform the song live with Sara in front of a camera crew and have it come out like it did…it gave me chills up my spine.' For Evans, who took the Foster/George Ducas-written song to number one on the country singles charts earlier this week, it was the culmination of a dream. 'I was obsessed with Radney's music when I was younger,' she admitted. 'He's so soulful, and to sing with him was pure joy.'
The fourth number one singer for the CMA-nominated artist came as a result of a writing session with Foster. 'I went to Radney's house to write, and after we wrote that day, he sent me home with a CD and said, 'Can I shamelessly pitch you some songs?' The song he pitched me, 'A Real Fine Place to Start' was one of those great Radney Foster songs. I knew that was my first single right there. It was the first song we recorded on the whole project, and it's risen faster on the charts than any previous single.'
