NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Lost Highway Records) - Lost Highway recording artist Mary Gauthier (pronounced go-SHAY) was named NEW/EMERGING ARTIST OF THE YEAR at the 2005 Americana Music Awards. The ceremony was held on September 9 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN, and taped by GAC for broadcast on September 26.

Along with winning NEW/EMERGING ARTIST OF THE YEAR, Mary Gauthier was nominated for ALBUM OF THE YEAR (Mercy Now) and SONG OF THE YEAR ("Mercy Now").

Since the February 2005 release of Mercy Now, Gauthier has received overwhelming praise from the press, including Rolling Stone, USA Today, Vanity Fair, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, CBS Sunday Morning, NPR Fresh Air, Reader's Digest, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Interview, Harp, No Depression, Paste and many others.

Gauthier also performed a powerful version of the title track during the award ceremony, and received roaring cheers and applause multiple times during the verses. This was also Gauthier's first time performing on the stage at the legendary music institution. With war, natural disasters, famine, poverty and so much more going on in the world today, Gauthier's "Mercy Now" is a beautiful reminder that we need to take a good look at the reality that surrounds us all.
