NASHVILLE, TN. (SONY BMG Music) - When Sara Evans joined the Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet at the beginning of 2005, she had no idea how quickly that role would become such a vital one. Since joining the board, Evans has witnessed firsthand their efforts on behalf of two of the biggest natural disasters in history – the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. 'We need to let people know what an important role the Red Cross plays whenever there is a disaster. Just in response to Katrina, more than 26,000 trained Red Cross workers have responded. They have housed more than 157,000 survivors in shelters, served over 4.6 million hot meals, set up a family links registry...the list goes on and on." Evans' responsibility as a celebrity spokesperson is one that she takes very seriously. 'My responsibility is to get the word out every opportunity I get, whether through my website, in interviews or to my fans. Please support the Red Cross. The best way to help is by making an online contribution at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW." Evans is making a difference in the hurricane relief effort in other ways as well. She will donate proceeds from tonight's concert in Columbus, Ohio to the Red Cross, and is also contributing an autographed guitar, concert tickets and meet and greet passes to Morgan Freeman's online auction for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Freeman has partnered with the American Red Cross and Charity Folks to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Among the items available for bid are movie premier and after-party passes, visits to movie sets and walk-on roles, VIP tickets to sporting events, award shows and concerts and signed memorabilia. Evans is urging everyone to log onto www.charityfolks.com to bid. Evans, whose single 'A Real Fine Place To Start' is currently at No 2 on the country singles chart, received two CMA nominations yesterday.
