SMYRNA, TN. (By Laura Claffey/ Wildfire Publicity) - Skyla Spencer will help raise money for Jerry's Kids on September 5 in Wythville, VA. She will be performing at WalMart (exit 70, off of Interstate 81) at 4:00 p.m. and on the MDA Telethon. Money raised at these nationwide events is used in the battle of conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans. WCRR's Rodney Allen, who invited Skyla to participate, will be hosting the event.

Skyla Spencer, an aspiring country music artist, shut down her dance studio, packed up her belongings, and moved from West Virginia to Music City two and a half years ago. Well on her way to being country's next big star, Skyla is making a mark overseas and here in the United States. Some of her past releases have topped such charts as Indie World, Inside Country, Indie Tracker, and also charting on ECMA, Power Source Indie Chart, and the New Music Weekly Chart.

Skyla Spencer's debut album, You Said You'd Call Me, was released in June. Her current single, "You Said You'd Call Me," can be heard on the radio world-wide. Skyla says: '"You Said You'd Call Me" was a blast to record! I feel many people will be able to relate to this song - both women and men".

When asked how she describes her music, Skyla replies "My music is fun, energetic, & up-lifting. I love a sense of humor, and that shows through on some of my songs. I also enjoy writing ballads. Some of the songs on this album are from real life experiences, but it's through these experiences, either good or bad, that I have become stronger. My first album is dedicated to the people I have lost in my life and to the troops who sacrifice so much for us." The album features a song titled "If I Were Rain" that is a special dedication to the troops. It explains how, in the tough times that we are facing, the one thing that we can do is to pray for one another. "If I Were Rain" hit Christian radio in July, and country radio this fall.
