NEW YORK (Arista Nashville/RLG) - There've been black-outs and blizzards; international golf matches and countless other cataclysmic complications that may've delayed - but never stopped - heavy metal honky tonk heroes Brooks & Dunn. And so it with Hurricane Kristen, the most severe hurricane in longer than anyone can remember - a force of nature that may keep Ronnie and Kix's full-throttle appearance in Manhattan's Bryant Park from being broadcast live tomorrow morning (Aug 29) when it goes down; but it won't get in the way of the live-to-tape performance hitting ABC's wake-up show from 8:30-9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1.
'They haven't come up with the force of nature that can stop us,' says Kix Brooks, the low-flying guitarslinger/songwriter with a wry laugh. 'Because we live to play, and no matter what it takes, we WILL find a way to make it happen. It may not be according to the original plan, but we don't care... we just wanna get out there and shake it up.'
With their Hillbilly Deluxe arriving in-stores on Tuesday, August 30, the boys are in high-visibility overdrive. The 4-time Entertainers of the Year are slated to be beamed live-via-satellite to 61 Regal Cinemas across the country for a 'One Night Only' performance that mixes live questions, an acoustic performance and a filmed show from Tulsa, Oklahoma's famed Cain's Ballroom. In addition, the boys have a full page in the current issue of People, Brooks' farm was featured in USA Today's Destination section and the pair is slated to grace the next cover of Country Weekly.
'It's amazing how 13 years into it, there's still stuff to say - and people who want to hear it,' Ronnie Dunn, of the seek and destroy vocal chords says quietly. 'We've been through so much stuff over the years.... We've really tried to focus on the music, and push ourselves... and it's awesome that people are still responding to what we're doing.'
As 'Play Something Country' makes its move on the top of the country radio charts, the Deuces Wild Tour - featuring Big & Rich and various Muzik Mafiosi as well as the always irreverent Warren Brothers - continues its assault on America. With two more full-months to go before wrapping in West Palm Beach on October 30th, one can only imagine what's next.
In the meantime, it's 'Good Morning America' - live tomorrow in Bryant Park, live in your living room Thursday, September 1. Don't miss it - in person or in your own home. After all, how often can you wake up in a honky tonk during a hurricane?
