NASHVILLE, TN. (Dreamworks Nashville) - Country superstar
Toby Keith may enjoy poking some fun at himself in the single and video "As Good As I Once Was," but the song's ascension to No. 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart proves that, in reality, he's better than ever.
"I ain't as good as I once was," Keith sings in his latest. "That's just the cold, hard truth." But with his 10th Billboard No. 1 in this decade alone, he's now occupied the top slot for 38 weeks and counting since the new millennium dawned. All told, Keith has amassed 21 chart-topping singles in his career.
The song rose to the chart pinnacle in only 10 weeks, making it the second fastest-rising No. 1 in Keith's career, behind only the nine-weeks-to-the-top "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American)." It is also the fastest-rising Billboard No. 1 since last year's "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw.
Beyond widespread radio airplay, the single has been the musical centerpiece of Keith's recent television appearances, including a performance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Keith also played the song on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and on the CBS Early Show.
Over the recent July 4 holiday weekend, Keith played to hundreds of thousands of music fans in Pennsylvania, including a performance at Live 8, and capacity crowds in Pittsburgh with two shows as well as his show in Philadelphia on the Fourth.
His Honkytonk University album, which features "As Good As I Once Was," remains on of the best selling albums in any genre. HTU, along with his recent Greatest Hits 2 release also occupy the top 10 on Billboard's Country Albums chart. Keith has 10 platinum albums to his credit and career album sales exceeding 25 million.
