Keith released his newest album "Honkytonk University" on May 17, 2005. This marks his 13th album, confirming his place as one of the very few recording artists in any genre for whom artistic and commercial growth has been simultaneous, long-lived and completely self-directed.
Born and raised in Oklahoma he brings many of his life experiences to his music, including his new album's first single, where he goes back to his roots and sings about the nightclub his grandmother owned on the Arkansas-Oklahoma line. It was this nightclub that gave Keith his itch to be a performer. Growing up, jobs included rodeo work, climbing oil rigs and semipro football, but music soon became his focus, performing mainly in small bars and doing independent recording gigs.
Keith first broke out into the country music fans nationwide with 1993's "Shoulda Been A Cowboy." This No. 1 smash hit paved the way for three more hits, "Wish I Didn't Know Now," "A Little Less Talk and Lot More Action" and "He Ain't Worth Missing." The ensuing years saw several No. 1 releases and multiplatinum sales.
Keith's next single release, "Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue, (The Angry American)," was written in response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The song became an emotional rallying cry in the war on terror, and the title was painted on tank cannons and warplanes during the hunt for al-Qaida in Afghanistan. "Courtesy" helped the 2002 release of "Unleashed" to a No. 1 country debut, and was followed by the hits "Who's Your Daddy?" and "Beer For My Horses," a duet with Willie Nelson.
The following year Keith released "Shockin' Y'all" and saw three multiweek No. 1s, "I Love This Bar," "American Soldier" and "Whiskey Girl." The album entered the all-genre album chart at No. 1 and is currently well past triple platinum. His "Greatest Hits 2" collection was released late last fall, and is also nearing triple platinum and established yet another hit, "Stays In Mexico."
Keith is on-stage at Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005. Tickets are $77 to $110, tax included, and can only be purchased through www.ticketmaster.com or your local Ticketmaster outlet.
