NASHVILLE, TN. (Capitol Records Nashville) - Neo-traditionalist country star
Dierks Bentley releases his masterful second CD,
Modern Day Drifter (Capitol Records Nashville) to stores this Tuesday, May 10. To celebrate the release of
Modern Day Drifter, Dierks will be performing songs from his new CD on the
Tonight Show on May 16, CMT Insider on May 28, Good Morning
America on June 20, The Late Late Show with
Craig Ferguson the week of June 13 and on Public
Radio International's Mountain Stage in the coming months. On stands now is a seven-page spread on Dierks in the current issue of No Depression magazine and Dierks will be the subject of an upcoming feature in People Magazine. Dierks has already made appearances on NBC's Today Show, where Katie Couric attended the Platinum party commemorating a million copies sold of his debut album, AOL Sessions, CMT Insider and CMT Top Twenty. Dierks's co-hosting job with Storme Warren on GAC's Country
Music Across
America airs through May 20.
'People have asked me if an artist worries about the second album doing as well as the first. I don't know about anyone else,' joked Dierks, 'but if this is what a ‘sophomore slump' feels like then I want more of them! Not only has the media attention been overwhelming but the fans have whole-heartedly responded to the new music when we play it each night!'
On Modern Day Drifter, Dierks shows off his adept writing prowess, co-writing eight of the 11 tracks on the disc including his current top-ten single, 'Lot of Leavin' Left to Do,' a rollicking romp about devout bachelorhood, and let-her-rip tracks like 'Domestic, Light and Cold' and 'So So Long.' Dierks changes tempo and tome with the heart-breaking lamenter, 'Settle for a Slow Down' and the Conway Twitty homage, 'Come A Little Closer.' He also gives a nod to his bluegrass sensibilities on the Del McCoury written, 'Good Man Like Me' which features musicianship and backing vocals by the legendary Del McCoury Band and revives the Jamie Hartford gem, 'Good Things Happen' with angelic backing vocals by Alison Krauss.
Modern Day Drifter is the perfect CD title for Dierks, a self-described 'Road Dog.' Just as he did in 2004, Dierks will tour over 300 days this year playing arenas, rock clubs, theatres and festivals such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival (September 23-25) with Lyle Lovett, Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Coldplay and Widespread Panic among others. Dierks's self-titled debut disc sold over a million copies earning him three smash singles, the award for Top New Artist of the Year from the Academy of Country Music and spots on many of the top critic's best-of-the-year lists.
