LOS ANGELES (Purify Records) - Alt-country rock band Come and Go, who got their name from an unreleased Allman Brothers song called 'Come and Go Blues,' are announcing the release of their debut CD Shinebox (Purify Records), due in stores on May 3. The band is also set to throw a CD release party at LA's legendary Derby on May 6, where they'll perform the tunes from Shinebox, including its first single 'Sugar,' a rocking yet melodic tune that exemplifies the band's cutting edge country-flavored rock roots.
Come and Go, led by brothers Shannon and Shane Hudson, had written the songs on Shinebox long before they recorded them. According to Shannon, 'We had played all of these songs live quite a few times before we went into the studio to record Shinebox, and we already knew which songs we were going to put on it.'
The CD was recorded at Sage and Sound studios in Hollywood CA (Weezer/Meladroit, Alanis Morissette, American Hi Fi) and produced by Scott Gordon (Alanis, Aerosmith, Ringo Starr). 'The process was best studio experience I've ever had,' Shannon explains. 'With us and Scott, it was about as perfect a fit as we could've had. He knew the sound we wanted to capture – that classic rock, alt-country sound.'
The recording process ended up taking three months, although only five weeks of it were spent actually recording the CD. Shannon says, 'We were dealing with deaths in the family, gall bladders being removed – in the middle of recording, Scott Gordon had to have his gall bladder removed. And our other producer Dustin Boyer's grandfather passed away the 5th or 6th day into the recording.' But eventually things quieted down, and the CD finally got made.
So how is it playing in a band with a sibling? According to Shannon, 'Shane and I have been playing together for about eight years, and the coolest part is the songwriting aspect. We share co-writing status on all our songs, yet we don't collaborate on anything. And we can be brutally honest with each other, but it doesn't come out as brutal because it's coming from your family. It's just easier to take criticism from your brother. I know that if anyone can set me straight, it's Shane.'
As for the band's live show, Come and Go enjoy that aspect best of all. 'We're all about live shows,' Shannon reveals. 'We plan on making touring and playing live shows our bread and butter.'
Stay tuned for news of a summer tour...
