TORONTO, Canada (Mike Belobradic PR) - Country singer Alysha Brooke will be performing as part of a special benefit event for Michael Papaioannou in Milton on Saturday, February 19. This event is sold out.

Michael suffers from Lesch-Nyhan Disease (LND). LND is a very rare and devastating disorder characterized by, among other things, severe dystonia, speech impairment, renal disease, cognitive deficit and compulsive self injury. Unfortunately, there is no cure for LND.

'Michael will suffer from this for his whole life — he will never walk,' said Alysha. 'The whole situation is made even tougher on Michael's parents because they have to travel to San Diego to receive treatment.'

The costs associated with this travel and treatment are an added burden and expenses are not covered by medical plans.

The event on February 19 is a fundraiser to help defray the medical costs of Baby Michael's treatment. Alysha is a big supporter of children's charities in general and of baby Michael in particular. Since the release of her debut CD (Nuthin' but a Chevy) in November, Alysha has been quietly donating half of all proceeds to baby Michael and to Sick Kids hospital in Toronto, where two of her nephews have undergone treatment for leukemia.

'I have always been a supporter of children's charities. This one is particularly near and dear to my heart, as Michael and his family are personal friends of mine,' said Alysha. 'This night is a labour of love for me and my band.'

Alysha will be performing songs from her debut CD, along with some new material and a selection of popular country hits. She will be joined at this benefit concert by a number of other local musicians.

Alysha Brooke released her debut CD, Nuthin' but a Chevy, in November 2004. She is currently booking tour dates for spring, summer and fall 2005. Alysha lives in a rural area between the towns of Milton and Rockwood.

Event Date: Saturday, February 19
Location: Country Heritage Park (Barn), Milton
Time: Doors Open at 6:30 p.m.; Alysha's set begins at 8:45 p.m.
