New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Petal (Kiley Lotz) has unveiled the music video for "Better Than You" from forthcoming LP 'Magic Gone' (June 15, Run For Cover). Directed by Christopher Good (Grizzly Bear, Perfume Genius, Jay Som, Margaret Glaspy), the video captures Lotz's sardonic energy towards the minutiae of the music industry captured in vibrant color tones and moods. Visually, it manifests itself as couch karaoke, suburban ennui, and an oversized version of Whac-A-Mole.

"Chris and Andriena created this zany and comical world that was both exaggerated and sprinkled with these normal moments at home where I am still performing," said Lotz. "The song is paranoia and frustration with the music industry while struggling with the love of making music, and I think the video perfectly encapsulates the feeling of having fun and also feeling like you always have to be performing in some way in this industry, even if you feel hollow inside."

"If there's such a thing as an expressionist documentary, maybe that's what the video is, a little bit- like an expressionist documentary of its own making?" said Good of the music video. "What you see is what we had- fun, fun, fun."

Petal's new album 'Magic Gone' is out June 15 on Run For Cover, and Stereogum called the lead single "charged-up, confident and catchy" with early comparisons to 'Cerulean Salt'-era Waxahatchee.

'Magic Gone' is vitally important and cathartic, and the duality between vignettes on songs makes it a piece to be heard as a whole. Comprised of a Side A titled Tightrope Walker and Side B titled Miracle Clinger, 'Magic Gone' is a chronicle of songs that Lotz wrote before she entered recover for major depressive and panic disorders, and songs she wrote in recovery, and also covers the period of time in which Lotz came out as a queer person. In her own words, Lotz tried to channel the vigor of the likes of Queen and Nina Simone along with modern vocalists like Solange, Margaret Glaspy and Mitski.
