NEW YORK (Virgin Records) - With six months to go before the mighty V Festival returns to Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire, today organisers reveal the first headline act to perform exclusively at the 10th annual festival. The NYC rockers,
Scissor Sisters will headline the main stage of the festival, sponsored by Virgin Mobile, on the weekend of 20th and 21st August 2005.
The Filthy / Gorgeous five piece act who played at V in 2004 are currently nominated to take home three awards at this week's BRITS: 2005 International Group, 2005 International Album and 2005 International Breakthrough Act. The Scissor Sisters will take to the main stage (Saturday at Weston Park and Sunday at Hylands Park) and promise to provide a performance to remember with the UK debut of much anticipated new material.
Festival Director Bob Angus commented:
'Their performance on the NME stage at last year's festival is hailed as pivotal to this breakthrough and we wish them the best of luck for the BRITS. They continually receive rave reviews for their releases and we can't wait to be blown away by another live performance again this year. In the coming weeks we plan to unveil a phenomenal joint headline act*, who, with the Scissor Sisters, will make it one of our best line ups yet - worthy of our 10th anniversary status!'
The Scissor Sisters comprises of Jake Shears (vocals, founding member), Ana Matronic (vocals), Paddy Boom (drums), Del Marquis (guitar) and Babydaddy (bass), the band continue to win UK fans aplenty with their ultra cool tunes and tongue in cheek glam style.
It was their second single, a hedonist remake of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb (Jan 04) which got them noticed, before Take Your Mama (March 04) and a re-lease of their debut Laura (July 04) broadened their audience. Two more singles, Mary (Oct 04) and Filthy/ Gorgeous (Jan 05) followed, with all being taken from last year's UK. no.1 album, Scissor Sisters.
* Playing Saturday at Hylands Park and Sunday at Weston Park
A brief history of 10 years of V...
The very first V festival was held in 1996 and was the only event of its kind to be staged at two sites over the same weekend where the artists swap venues overnight. Previous headliners have included The Strokes, Muse, Dido and Pixies (last year), Coldplay and Red Hot Chilli Peppers (2003), Manic Street Preachers and Suede (1999), Prodigy and Blur (1997) and featured acts such as Travis, The Verve, James Brown, All Saints, Iggy Pop, Macy Gray, Moby, Faithless and Kylie... The festival boasts the cream of the music crop every year and organisers are pulling out all the stops to celebrate a decade of V!
Text the fest, free kebabs and angels...
Once again Virgin Mobile joins the festival as headline sponsor, making it one of the longest standing music sponsorships in the business. They are guaranteed to bring us all the things that festival goers have got used to, Text the Fest, free kebabs and beer for their customers and angels onsite to do everything from putting up your tent to making sure you find it again at the end of the night.
