SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (www.ignaciopena.com) - Ignacio Pena is currently producing a song for El Reencuentro, the musical group made up of ex-Menudo members, which will be used to promote the upcoming reunion concerts for the group in Puerto Rico. The song, for which the title has yet to be revealed, is a new version of an old classic by Menudo.
Pena produced the song with Tony Rijos, co-producer of his album Anormal, and Ray Reyes, one of El Reencuentro's members. The musicians chosen for the recording session were: Pena on Piano, Rijos on Guitars, Juan Carlos Bermudo on Bass, Antonio Expósito on Keyboards and Rey Torres on Drums. The song was recorded in Manuel Calero's C&T Recording Studio in Puerto Rico.
El Reencuentro's members are currently recording the vocals onto the track, which is expected to be ready for radio broadcast during the month of February.
The relationship between Pena and El Reencuentro dates back to 1997, at which time the group was in Miami working on the final mix of their album '15 Años Después'. Pena visited the group at the studio, and it was there when he was discovered by his future manager, while playing his song 'Un Retrato De La Luna' on the studio's piano.
Pena states, 'Working on a Menudo song which is more than 25 years old and trying to make it sound contemporary, is a very interesting challenge.' El Reencuentro's Ray Reyes adds, 'When the public gets a chance to listen to this version of the song, they'll be surprised. I think something unexpected was achieved and it shows Menudo's music from a different perspective.'
After putting the finishing touches on El Reencuentro's song, Pena, which continues to promote his song 'Dónde Estabas?' off his album Anormal, will concentrate his efforts on concluding the final stages of his upcoming tour, which will take his acclaimed show Phono/Gráphico to different cities in Puerto Rico during the next few months.
