Gayle and Lee Greenwood, two of the country's most renowned entertainers, have received the supreme invitation to unveil the next luminary postage stamp-the President Ronald Reagan commemorative postage stamp. In a special dedication ceremony to be held next Wednesday, February 9,
Gayle and Greenwood will join former Reagan Administration officials and members of Congress in celebration with Postmaster General John E.
Potter to dedicate the President Ronald Reagan commemorative postage stamp at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington DC. The Reagan stamp honoring the nation's 40th President will be issued Nationwide and available to the public on February 9.
"The United States Postal Service is honoring a man who was known by his fellow Americans as the great communicator," said Postmaster General John E. Potter in making the initial introduction. "The famous Reagan smile reflected on the stamp's image radiates his confidence," adds Potter.
Grammy Award winning artists Gayle and Greenwood will accompany an elite group of government officials at the ceremony including James Miller, Chairman, U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors and former Director, U.S. Office of Management and Budget (1985-1988) and Chairman, Federal Trade Commission (1981-1985) and Edwin Meese, III, Former U.S. Attorney General (1985-1988) and Chief Policy Advisor to President Reagan (1981-1985). All members of Congress and all members of the Reagan Alumni Association have been invited to attend.
Crystal Gayle and Lee Greenwood will provide the musical entertainment as part of the festivities. Lee will open the ceremony with the National Anthem and his trademark single "God Bless The U.S.A." 'What a tremendous tribute to former President Ronald Reagan,' says Greenwood in response to his invitation.
'I am humbled by his contribution to this country and consider it an honor not only to be invited to the First Day of Issue Ceremony, but to perform once again as I have many times before during his Presidency.' Crystal Gayle shares her sentiment to say, 'President Reagan was a gentleman, a scholar and a noble leader who left a distinguished and everlasting impression in our American history.
He is deserving of this recognition and so much more. I am pleased to participate in this American tribute.' Crystal has prepared an all-American medley and will perform 'America The Beautiful,' This Is My Country' and 'God Bless America.'
