BOSTON, MA. (Boston Conservatory Opera) - The Boston Conservatory Opera, under the direction of Sanford Sylvan, presents Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring Mar. 31 Apr. 2, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. at The Boston Conservatory Theater, 31 Hemenway St., Boston. Conducted by Bruce Hangen. Directed by Kirsten Z. Cairns. Tickets are $12 general admission, and $5 for students and seniors. Box Office: 617-912-9222.

Britten's 1947 comic opera in three acts is the story of moral repression overcome by youthful exuberance. Young Albert is bullied by his mother into becoming the May King of Loxford when Lady Billows, the town's self-appointed guardian of public morals, decides that no girl in the town qualifies as pure enough to be May Queen. Albert's friends Sid and Nancy lace his lemonade with rum, arousing a little personal rebellion, and leading to his disappearance, assumed death, and reappearance, emancipated from social convention.

Known for its intimate and supportive multi-disciplinary environment, the Conservatory offers fully accredited graduate and undergraduate programs in Music, Dance, Theater, and Music Education, and presents over 200 performances each year by students, faculty, and guest artists.
