NASHVILLE, TN. (IndieMafia Records) - Country outlaw Billy Don Burns' "Tired & Troubled Soldiers," a heartfelt plea for compassion for those struggling on the fringes of life, is featured on the February issue of the New Christian
Music compilation. The CD will be released to radio February 1.
"We need to pray more for our brother who is on the wrong track, with a pistol in his pocket and a monkey on his back," Burns urges in his weathered, knowing voice. Don Wayne Reno's banjo propels the haunting melody, Deanie Richardson's swelling fiddle lends a sense of urgency, and a chorus of "Alleluia, Halleluiah" adds to the track's gospel feel.
The poignant song gains resonance from the fact that Burns wrote it with his "best old friend," Mack Vickery, who died December 21. Vickery, whose well-known songs included "Rockin' My Life Away" (Jerry Lewis) and "The Fireman" (George Strait) was "a kind person who was good to everybody," Burns told a newspaper reporter soon after his friend's death. "He made everybody feel like they were somebody.''
The New Christian Music compilation, which aims to help spread the Gospel, is mailed each month to nearly 500 disc jockeys, agents, journalists and others in the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, as well as in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Michigan and Arizona and to the Armed Forces Network.
"Tired & Troubled Soldiers" is from Burns' album HEROES, FRIENDS & OTHER TROUBLED SOULS, released internationally this month on IndieMafia Records. Under a recently signed agreement between IndieMafia and Cleveland-based Rust Records, the disc will hit U.S. retailers February 22, with delivery by Fontana Distribution.
