AUSTIN, TX. (Republic Records) - People pretty much know
Pat Green knows how to live. And the solid gold
Texas singer/songwriter/lifestyle icon is getting 2005 off to a good start - throwing a jumbo-ski'n'sing party for a bunch of his friends in Steamboat! That's right, Green, pal Cory Morrow and a bunch of special guests are setting up shop in Colorado for a 5-day winter funfest that's as much "getaway vacation" as it is a meeting of the tribes.
We're talking 6 days, 5 nights and 4 days of all-inclusive lift passes. It all starts tomorrow (January 4) and runs through January 9 -- and everyone's invited. After all, what better way to start the New Year than with a vacation? For more information, you can hit www.bigskitrip.com or call 888-754-8447.
"You know, we like to play in the snow," says the affable man, who's been nominated for three Grammys, including Country Song for his signature "Wave On Wave," with a twinkle in his eye. "And we just don't get enough snow down in Texas. So this is as good an excuse as any to throw a little ski trip, get a bunch of bands we like, let the people who come to our shows have an excuse to go skiing, too!"
Pat's not kidding! Co-hosting with fellow Texas standard Cory Morrow, it's a best of both worlds proposition, with skiing and snow boarding all day on the five mountains that surround Steamboat... and then tons of music (along with "night-tubing" down the slopes) every single night!
Indeed, they've got the very best of the Texas country coming in from all over the Lone Star State: Cross Canadian Ragweed, Reckless Kelly, Wade Bowen - who co-wrote Green's current "Don't Break My Heart Again," Django Walker, the South Austin Jug Band, Steh Jones, Roger Creger, Dub Miller, Kevin Fowler, Doug Moreland, Stoney LaRue, Ryan Bingham and the Randy Rogers Band.
Then in the inclusive fashion which is Green's nature, they've also reached out Nashville's Gary Allan, who'll perform a full concert and Dierks Bentley, who'll perform an acoustic set, in addition to casting an eye to Texas country's heritage with a very special Tribute To A Legend: Johnny Gimble performance.
"Look, it's all about music'n'friends'n'skiin''n'people'n'having a good time," Green explains of the motivation for the event, which sold out last year. "And I gotta tell you, the people who turn out and turn up for this KNOW how to enjoy themselves, So, you know, if this is the way I have to work, well, then I don't know how I got so dang lucky."
The Lucky Ones, by the way, is currently out. "Don't Break My Heart Again" breaks into the Top 20 on Radio & Records, continuing its climb towards the upper reaches. Look for the video on CMT and GAC's Countdowns - and look for Green & his road-tested band of merry men to be heading your way once the frolic in the snow is over.
