NASHVILLE, TN. (Rounder Records) - Rounder Records bluegrass group The Grascals debuted at No 3 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles Sales chart (Dec. 4 issue) with their first release, 'Viva Las Vegas.'
A bluegrass-infused version of the
Elvis Presley classic, the song was recorded as a duet with
Dolly Parton and is included on the band's forthcoming self-titled Rounder debut, in stores on February 8, 2005.
The single also entered the all-genre Hot 100 Singles Sales chart at No 27.
'What an impressive beginning!' said Rounder Records General Manager Paul Foley. 'For a brand new act to receive this kind of support right out of the box is a testimony to their talent and the wonderful exposure they've received opening Dolly Parton's tour. We expect this level of support will continue to grow along with anticipation for the CD's release.'
In addition to 'Viva Las Vegas,' the commercial single also includes 'Me and John and Paul' from the group's forthcoming debut album, and an instrumental called 'Sail Away Ladies.'
The Grascals are: Terry Eldredge on lead vocals and guitar, Jimmy Mattingly on fiddle, David Talbot on banjo and vocals, Jamie Johnson on guitar and vocals, Danny Roberts on mandolin and Terry Smith on bass. While the group was officially formed within the last year, its members have had years of experience playing for a 'Who's Who' of country and bluegrass greats, including Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Larry Cordle & Lonesome Standard Time and The Osborne Brothers.
