Music City-based soul-blues band Markey Blue continue their winning streak. The group's first album Hey Hey premiered at number one on the Chop's Blues Debut Chart and has been holding in the top five since it's release last month. Now Markey Blue have signed with Tallahassee, Florida's Blues Pros Talent Agency. Blues Pros is currently accepting bookings for Markey Blue for festivals, clubs and cultural organizations for 2015.
"I was impressed from the very first time I met Markey and saw the Markey Blue Band perform," says Harty Wiedemann, CEO of Blues Pros. "What really caught my eye was the band's impeccable showmanship and ability to execute live on stage; not only as great musicians, but as seasoned entertainers. Markey is a unique songstress, a compelling songwriter and a woman of the blues who is very talented and can truly sing. She doesn't knock anyone over with belting-loud screams or stage antics. Instead, she'll blow your mind with her wide scale vocal range and deep resonating tones. I realized that here was the complete package, on stage, right in front of me. When Markey told me about Markey Blue's new release Hey Hey, I listened to the tracks and knew they are destined for international recognition. It's my pleasure to welcome Markey Blue to the Blues Pros Talent roster."
Wiedemann's not alone in his excitement about Markey Blue. Legendary Stax songwriter, guitarist and producer Steve Cropper says: "What do you get when you have a great singer, a great band and great songs? A great project. Markey Blue, you have done it!" In fact, Cropper was so taken with Markey Blue's original song "Baby I'm Crying" that he assisted in its production.
Co-founded less than two years ago by vocalist Markey and guitarist Ric Latina, who also both produced Hey Hey, Markey Blue has blasted off like a rocket, playing more than 100 shows a year including festivals. Until now their high-energy live concerts have been the key to their popularity, but Hey Hey is propelling the group to new heights, sharing the blues and roots charts with new albums by Janiva Magness,
Johnny Winter and other luminaries. Throughout the disc Markey and Latina display their uncanny ability to draw on the wellspring of great soul music - particularly the Memphis-based sound of the Stax and Hi Records labels and Alabama's Muscle Shoals studios - as a source of inspiration for delivering original numbers that seem satisfyingly familiar, but are buoyed with wide-eyed energy and zealous performances that make them ring distinctly contemporary.
Hey Hey is available at Amazon, iTunes, Top40-Charts.com and other popular outlets as well as selected music stores, via City Hall distribution. To learn more or hear tracks from Hey Hey, visit the band at MarkeyBlue.com.
