New Memoir Opens Doors On Center Stage Of Musical Revolution
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Who knows better than a nightclub owner the feeling of throbbing music from floor-to-ceiling amps and a shaking dance floor than a rock club owner? Rick Bandazian, co-owner of Circus-Circus nightclub (later named The Circus), shares his insights into this unforgettable era of music - the late 1970s and early 1980s - in a new memoir released by Dog Ear Publishing. Although FM ruled the airwaves with such bands as Fleetwood Mac, Styx and Foreigner, rock clubs all over the country were promoting punk rock and new wave bands, exposing new genres of music to young fans. Circus Circus was no exception.

"Rock and Roll Meltdown: The Circus Nightclub Story 1979-1983" chronicles Bandazian's memories of that era, when his young brother actually got The Ramones to play the club, and other notables graced the stage like Twisted Sister, Rick Danko of The Band, John Kay of Steppenwolf, The Plasmatics and Robert Hunter, lyricist for the Grateful Dead. Bandazian was just 25 when he, his brother and his father invested in the nightclub, a converted restaurant-bar with 5,000 square feet and plenty of parking in Bergenfield, N.J., that soon became one of the hottest clubs on the circuit.

This intimate look into the rock scene features personal interviews from former and current band members of some of the greatest original, cover and tribute bands; eyewitness accounts from young club patrons; and interviews with former employees. Entertainment ranged from escape artists to beautiful mud wrestlers in tiny bathing suits to a male burlesque show, as well as outstanding musical talent. The book leads readers on a stroll down memory lane, when Circus-Circus served as New Jersey's Rock and Roll Big Top.

Author Rick Bandazian grew up in Glen Rock, N.J., and began working at a luncheonette when he was a just teenager. He worked at family owned luncheonettes in South Hackensack, Rochelle Park, Westwood and Wyckoff, N.J., before helping run what would later become Circus-Circus.
