NASHVILLE, TN. (Broken Bow Records) - Broken Bow Records' country music star CRAIG MORGAN will appear at the Tennessee "Hunters For The Hungry" rally scheduled for October 16 at the University of Tennessee,
Martin campus.
Morgan, whose recording of "Almost Home" was named as Music Row's prestigious Song of the Year award for 2004, will appear at the rally in his role as spokesman for the annual "Hunters For The Hungry" program, a joint effort of the Tennessee Conservation League and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. As spokesman for the Hunters For The Hungry campaign, Morgan will appear on public service radio and television announcements to detail how hunters may participate in the program.
"The reason that I chose to be involved with this organization is because I enjoy the outdoors immensely," shares Craig Morgan. "Hunters for the Hungry affords me the opportunity to assist in the management of wildlife, while at the same time provide food for the hungry."
The Hunters For The Hungry program, which encourages Tennessee deer hunters to donate all or part of their deer harvest to Tennessee food banks, has been a highly successful campaign, producing some 34,000 pounds of venison for needy Tennessee families last year. The program has provided some 200,000 pounds of venison to Tennessee food banks since 1999, yielding nearly one million meals.
Morgan, an avid hunter, has supported "Hunters For The Hungry" through his own donations of deer meat in years past and is expected to bring much needed attention to this worthy cause through his involvement this year.
Sponsored by the men of Martin's First United Methodist Church, the Saturday rally at U.T. Martin will be the climax of a weeklong revival that is expected to draw participants from churches all over West and Middle Tennessee.
"Many men don't believe there is a way for them to serve God in their community," said David Reed, one of the planners of the October 16 event. "Hunters For The Hungry is a way that men, whether they attend rural or urban churches, can be involved in feeding hungry people. A lot of times we do missions and never see the results, but with Hunters For The Hungry, local hunters harvest local deer, take the deer to local processors, then we take the meat to local food banks to feed the hungry in our own communities. We get to see the faces of the people who receive the food harvested by our own hands."
TWRA Executive Director Gary Myers applauded Morgan's willingness to help saying, "The agency is in a unique situation in Nashville to be able to draw on the talents and influence of the music community. Craig Morgan's love of the outdoors, his enthusiasm and generosity make him a perfect spokesperson."
