AUSTIN, TX. (Universal Records) - He's been working on his record for the past 6 months, and now that it's time to let Lucky Ones out,
Texas singer/songwriter
Pat Green is ready, steady, go. With Wave On Wave rolling in at No 2 behind Brooks & Dunn's Red Dirt Road in both releases first week, the people of
Texas - in state, out of state and state of mind - go long for their favorite son, and the triple Grammy-nominee is showing his gratitude by involving the folks in the Lone Star
State in the release week festivities.
"It's like they're as much a part of this as I am," says the unassuming journeyman troubadour. "To the folks who've been coming to see me and bringing their friends and coming back some more over the years, this is their music, too. It's certainly a lot of songs from my life - and the lives of people I know and care about it."
Starting with capacity shows at the Woodlands Amphitheatre in Houston and the Verizon Amphitheatre in San Antonio on Saturday and Sunday night, the man whose Wave On Wave was certified gold and single of the same name landed at No 3 on the Country Singles chart will hit the trail running. After an overnight drive to Dallas for a national satellite radio tour, he has a lunch with fans, followed by a series of radio & retail receptions.
Waking up bright and early on street date, it's three stations and two cities before lunch -- as Green hits Dallas' Wolf and KSCS, followed by a listening party at WACO. From there, the bus heads back to Austin, where Green goes live in evening drive at KASE/KVET, then rushes over to legendary Stubbs Barbeque, where the 1st 2000 people who show up with their copy of Lucky Ones gets in free or you can buy a copy at the Stubb's and get in.
"Stubbs is a big deal for us," admits the man who sold out the Astrodome twice, "and we've not been able to play there since 2000, 2001. It's a great place to play - and the fans are all just right there. It's like my living room only with a better sound system and cooler vibe."
Green will sign autographs after the show, then - you guessed it - get on the bus: this time for an overnight drive to Houston. Once arriving in Houston, he's got stops slated for KILT and KKBQ - before appearing at an instore at Cactus. After that, the pace slows a little: Thursday is college station with an in-studio at KORA and an instore at Hastings with KAGG, followed by Lubbock on Friday with an in-studio at KQBR, then an instore at Hastings - and a gala appearance at Texas Tech's annual fund-raising Kalf Fry.
"I wouldn't miss the Kalf Fry for the world," says the man whose graced the cover of Texas Monthly. "There are some things that are fun, then there are things that are BIG fun. This is one of those..."
While it's seemingly all about Texas, the rest of the country can also pick up their copies of Lucky Ones, produced by Don Gehman, anywhere music's sold starting October 19. And if there's no street week play near you, fear not - Pat Green and his road rogues will be hitting every major American market in short order, bringing the Lone Star to the other 47 stars before it's all over.
