Biography
Calema is a musical duo formed by brothers António Mendes Ferreira (born April 5, 1992) and Fradique Mendes Ferreira (born March 19, 1987) from São Tomé and Príncipe. The name "Calema" refers to a unique ocean swell along the African coast, symbolizing their deep connection to their roots. After moving to Portugal for their studies, the brothers relocated to France, where they began their music careers in earnest. Their music blends African rhythms with contemporary pop, creating a distinctive sound that resonates across Lusophone countries and beyond. Calema has released several albums, including Bomu Kêlê and A Nossa Vez, and has gained significant popularity in Europe and Africa.
Sara Correia, born on May 27, 1993, in Lisbon's Marvila district, is a renowned Portuguese fado singer. Raised in a family of fado enthusiasts, she was inspired by her aunt, Joana Correia, and began singing in fado houses at a young age. At 13, she won the prestigious "Grande Noite do Fado" competition, marking the start of her professional career. Sara has released multiple albums, including her self-titled debut Sara Correia (2018), Do Coração (2020), which earned a Latin Grammy nomination, and Liberdade (2023). Her powerful voice and deep connection to traditional fado have made her a prominent figure in the genre.
