LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Los Angeles Youth Orchestra) - The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra will perform at Walt Disney Concert Hall November 11 at 12:00 noon as part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Youth Orchestra Partners Program. The orchestra, conducted by Russell Steinberg, Ph.D., is one of four area youth orchestras chosen to play in this concert, which is a part of the LA Phil's International Youth Orchestra Festival introducing their most promising stars of tomorrow.

The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, proudly sponsored by the Stephen S. Wise Temple, reflects the truly diverse quality of the entire city, representing over fifty schools, both public and private, from throughout the Los Angeles area. Our student musicians range in age from 8 to 18, encompassing a wide spectrum of cultures, religions, and abilities. Some of our inspirational examples come from students with disabilities, such as one of our flute players who, despite being blind from birth, has discovered an ability to play in an orchestra. Our students rehearse and play alongside professional musicians and in concerts have played with several celebrities such as pianist Joel Fan, concert artist with Yo Yo Ma and Silk Road Ensemble. Israeli composer, Tzvi Avni with narration by actress Gates McFadden of Star Trek fame, Lowell Milken of The Milken Foundation, concert pianist, author, and radio personality, Mona Golabek, and Congressman Henry Waxman. Open auditions, announced on our website, are held twice a year, in the spring and in the fall. Public and private schools and instrumental instructors are notified of our auditions and encouraged to send their students who wish to join. For the many schools whose music programs have been cut back, this is a rare opportunity to participate in a rich musical experience.

The program includes:
Symphony No. 41 ("Jupiter") by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Heart of the World by Russell Steinberg,
World Premiere, violin solo: Luke Santonastaso
in memory of Raymond Benjamin,
Ruby Overture by Russell Steinberg
dedicated to Kenneth and Wendy Ruby

LA FORZA DEL DESTINO SINFONIA by Guiseppe Verdi
DANCE OF THE HOURS from "La Gioconda" by Amilcare Ponchielli

The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra offers additional performances at Milken Community High School of Stephen S. Wise Temple on December 9, 2007, 7:00 p.m. and at Zipper Concert Hall at the Colburn School on December 10, 2007, 7:30 p.m.
