New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) - Atlantic Records has announced the release of MUSIC AND LYRICS – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE, the original motion picture soundtrack to the forthcoming romantic comedy from Castle Rock Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures. Due in stores on February 13th, the album features original songs performed by the film's stars, including Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. 'Music and Lyrics' opens in theatres nationwide on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2007.

MUSIC AND LYRICS – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE features all of the film's original songs, produced by Fountains of Wayne's Academy Award-nominated songwriter, Adam Schlesinger. The majority of the album's 12-song tracklist sees Grant stepping behind the mic for the first time, performing songs in his role as erstwhile '80s pop superstar Alex Fletcher. Among the collection's other highlights is 'Buddha's Delight', performed by newcomer Haley Bennett, and written by Bloodshy & Avant, the Swedish production duo behind such international hits as Britney Spears' Grammy Award-winning smash, 'Toxic.' In addition, the soundtrack includes tracks from two of Sweden's hottest rock/pop exports, the Sounds and Atlantic's own Teddybears.

'Music and Lyrics' stars Grant as Alex Fletcher, a washed-up 80s pop star who's been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. The charismatic and talented musician gets a chance at a comeback when reigning diva Cora Corman (played by Bennett) invites him to write and record a duet with her, but there's a problem – Alex hasn't written a song in years, he's never written lyrics, and he has to come up with a hit in a matter of days.

Enter Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), Alex's beguilingly quirky plant lady, whose flair for words strikes a chord with the struggling songwriter. On the rebound from a bad relationship, Sophie is reluctant to collaborate with anyone, especially commitment-phobe Alex. As their chemistry heats up at the piano and under it, Alex and Sophie will have to face their fears – and the music – if they want to find the love and success they both deserve.

Written and directed by Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice), 'Music and Lyrics' also stars Brad Garrett as Alex's steadfast manager, Chris Riley and Kristen Johnston as Sophie's sister, Rhonda.
